GNO is a token for interacting with Gnosis prediction markets which create conditional tokens. These tokens are tied to real-world events and traded based on users’ predictions.
Martin Koeppelmann and Stefan George founded Gnosis in 2015 as part of their vision to build a blockchain-based, open-source, and permissionless prediction market. Before creating Gnosis, Stefan had created a Bitcoin-based prediction market.
The creators of Gnosis believe that prediction markets represent uncensored data on real-world events which could be of use to predict events. Government, investors, and insurance companies might benefit from prediction market data.
